As the price of fuel continues to soar, truck drivers across the nation have discovered the savings and convenience provided by electrified truck stops – not only do they save money, they promote compliance among truckers to the growing number of anti-idling guidelines implemented to reduce pollution.

Electrified truck stops are exactly what they sound like: truck stops that allow truckers to “plug in” instead of idling. Truck drivers run power cables (they look like giant yellow exhaust pipes found on the back of clothes dryers) to their cabs that deliver electricity, heating and air conditioning, Internet, and cable television. Such technology is significantly cheaper than paying for the cost of diesel fuel to power an idling engine – and much better for the environment!

Looking for a place to plug in? The U.S. Department of Energy teamed up with the Federal Highway Administration to create the Truck Stop Electrification Site Locator. Just enter your address, city, and state or zip code and it will list electrified truck stops within a specified mile radius.
